Haile Gebrselassie is sueing Facebook over Ethiopia violence’
Ethiopian athletics legend Haile Gebrselassie says he is considering suing social media giant Facebook for playing a significant role in inciting recent violence in the country, state-linked Fana Broadcasting Corporate reports.
He said networking sites, particularly Facebook, have enabled the growing incidents of violence in the country.
‘’If the government of Ethiopia fails to sue Facebook, I may sue,’’ he is quoted as saying in an interview.
Officials say 80 people were killed in the unrest while the number of those detained could increase as investigations into the violence continue.
“Since many died in a few days, this is enough to sue Facebook,” Gebrselassie, a long-distance legend in the country, is quoted as saying.
Why Facebook is not at least responding for this tragedy and Violence?
The answer is simple …It is ‘AFRICA’
After all it is “The dark content”
In 2018, Facebook and British data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica were at the centre of a dispute over the harvesting and use of personal data of more than 230 million users, using it to try and alter how people voted in multiple countries including USA.
As a result of the scandal, Cambridge Analytica closed operations and the US Senate summoned Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who was grilled by US Congress members.
Mind you, not a single life lost in that all saga, just allegdly the election . But here a single American knucklehead “Activist” Facebook statement in the middle of the night caused the loss of over 80 bystandards.
Just a few month ago the company introduce a new initiative for Africa. It suppose to have more African languages in its effort to curb fake news. The Amharic language which is spoken by more than half of 112 million people must not be the part of it…then
That Night Facebook’s FAKE NEWS was by far worst fake news ever distributed by FACEBOOK. Which claim the life of so many, burning of many churchs and mosque, and countless peoples severely injured.
YES!!! Athelet Hile Gebreselase has all the right to sue the Fake News media giant. Someone has to stand up for the forgotten ones…
